The guests, which include activists, politicians and other inspiring individuals, will sit with Obama, Dr. Jill Biden and Valerie Jarrett for the State of the Union on Tuesday. Headline-makers like Spencer Stone, the U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant who helped thwart a terrorist attack on a Paris-bound train; Jim Obergefell, the named plaintiff in the landmark Supreme Court case Obergefell v. Hodges, which ruled that same-sex couples have the Constitution right to marry, and Lisa Jaster, the first female Army Reserve officer to graduate from the Ranger School, will be sitting with the group.
Refer Hamo, the Syrian refugee whose story was featured on Humans of New York and prompted a personal response from the president, will also be present. The guest list also includes at least one Republican political (Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell from Tennessee) and a mix of veterans, including a Saudi-born Army vet named Naveed Shah; Earl Smith, a vet who gave the president a patch he wore while serving during the Vietnam War, and Oscar Vazquez, a Mexican-born Army vet and DREAMer.
One seat will be left open in the box for the victims of gun violence "who no longer have a voice."
The final State of the Union will stream from WhiteHouse.gov on Tuesday at 9 p.m.
