The pop star, 21, narrates this promo for the two-hour Miley Cyrus Bangerz Tour special, which airs Sunday at 9/8c, and it's all about the anticipation and drama – as Cyrus is seen getting pumped up backstage before a show, and talking about her intense connection to her fans.
"They feel safe in there. And there's not that many places that you're around 20,000 people and you feel safe," she says of the adoring throngs at her arena concerts. "I feel like they think that I'm some sort of leader, and I'm giving them kind of the push to go forward."
There is no actual concert footage in the promo, as it fades to black and the crowd's roar just as Cyrus is about to take the stage. But NBC has also released a minute-long clip of Cyrus's "We Can't Stop" performance from the special, which you can also see below.
The special features concert footage from recent shows in Barcelona, Spain and Lisbon, Portugal, as well as behind-the-scenes footage.
"Her performance in this special is flawless and passionate," the tour's creative director, Diane Martel, tells Billboard. "Miley's performance is intense and wild … To see her eyes close up, to see her lithe body and huge voice making this collection of people respond in tandem, that's the important thing to translate from stage to the small screen."
