The frenemies are frequent pranksters, but Shelton's stunt during an April episode of The Voice may have been all for show, the country crooner's wife Miranda Lambert tells Billboard for its May 17 cover story.
"I texted Blake, 'Did you do that, did that just happen?' " she says. "I'm guessing it was a publicity ploy, I don't know for sure. He wouldn't actually do that."
Why not? According to the "Automatic" singer, her husband is no match for the Maroon 5 frontman's tricks.
"Blake's pretty mean sometimes, but not that mean. He would have brought the wrath of Adam, because Adam has done some crazy s–––," Lambert, 30, reveals.
"He sent us a nine-ft.-tall, seven-ft.-wide cover of himself as PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive, he sent that to our house. So I wouldn't even want to know his revenge if Blake did that."
As for whether country's cutest couple will hit the road together, Lambert – whose album Platinum drops Tuesday – says any collaboration would have to happen soon.
"I think it's close to time, if we're going to," she explains. "There would be nothing better than being able to hang out with my husband on tour, we've never actually done that. We're getting to the point where we want to slow down, we don't want to tour as much, so it's now or never, if you ask me."
