His father, Guled Ahmed, was playing with his children in the living room when he went into the kitchen, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Less than a minute later, his 3-year-old daughter ran to him and said, "the baby fell."
Guled looked over the balcony railing and saw his 15-month-old son lying on the ground. He then grabbed his daughter and ran down to him.
"My brother just stepped out in the kitchen and his little daughter opened the door. And his youngest son stepped out that quick and went through. Sometimes things happen," Abdirahim Ahmed told KARE 11. "My brother is terrified and I don’t think he will be the same ever again."
Musa's small size is one of the main reasons he survived, according to doctors. According to wire reports, Musa suffered a broken spine and ribs, a punctured lung and a concussion, and is in critical but stable condition.
"Little [kids] are more flexible and don't break as easily as we do and he also fell in a very small patch of mulch," physician Tina Slusher at Hennepin County Medical Center told KARE 11. "It's definitely a miracle. It's God's gift to his family. Kids don’t fall this far and make it often. Especially without a serious brain injury. You and I would've been dead."
