So how did the dad of 3½-year-old twins Gideon and Harper spend his big day?
First up: Gospel Brunch at the Red Rooster, where he ate fried chicken, biscuits and waffles. "[The kids] loved singing and all of the good food," Harris said of the family's mid-morning meal. "It's delicious – the fried chicken, chicken and smothered gravy and biscuits."
Then, the actor threw on his tights for two performances as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
But how does the Tony Award-winning actor consume such a heavy meal before a taxing production? "Ummm, I graze," he told PEOPLE Monday night at the TrevorLIVE event in New York. "I know I got a show to do, baby."
Finally, he finished off the day with Mexican food and margaritas with partner David Burtka and a group of good friends.
In August, Harris will step down as Hedwig and will be succeeded by Tony nominee Andrew Rannells.
So what's next? "Hopefully, some much needed rest. I'm ready for a little bit of downtime," he said. "After August, I'll be all up in waffles."
