Once the coyotes were gone, April Lewis, 28, realized her legs were too weak to climb down. No cell phone in sight she began to scream for help. Luckily, a man nearby heard her pleas and called 911, according to a statement on the Manchester Township police website.
Police found Lewis just after 3 am in the woods near Portsmouth Street, in the Whiting section. She had cut off a piece of her pant leg to tie herself to the tree, about 15 feet off the ground. Firefighters had to help her down.
In the end, she was evaluated and released at the scene.
It's unclear how many coyotes she encountered. Lewis told police she thought she heard and saw one or more.
The Quakertown, Pennsylvania, resident was vacationing at a nearby Christian retreat center.
