Vogue's André Leon Talley attended the pre-wedding celebration alongside members of Kardashian's family and writes that North, who was dressed in gray, didn't cry once during the meal.
As courses were served Kardashian got up to feed her 11-month-old and "by dessert time, North was nibbling on Valentino's dark chocolate from a beautiful dish, and I heard her say 'Pa,' looking for her father," Talley writes.
Guests dined on a first course of artichoke hearts salad and poached egg with hollandaise, while the second course of baked sea bass featured a mix of vegetable tempura, which is a favorite of North's, "who tried with her few teeth coming in to chew on a slim carrot slice."
At the end of the lunch Valentino paid tribute to the couple. "I would love to toast these two beautiful people here before me," he said. "And I also want to thank Kris Jenner for having these beautiful girls. These girls make my dining room even more beautiful." He toasted Kardashian and West in Italian, saying, "I wish you much success, a lot of love, and a long life."
"Mama" Jenner, as Valentino called the momager, who was seated to the right of the designer, then offered her own toast to the host. "I want first to toast Kim and Kanye, who love each other, and I say for all of us, this is the most beautiful place we've ever been."
Valentino's 17th century estate, Château de Wideville, was once the home of King Louis XIV's mistress. After lunch the wedding party took a quick tour before leaving at 3:30 p.m. to prep for their rehearsal dinner at another "beautiful place" – the palace of Versailles.
