The day before his (hardly ancient) 54th birthday, President Obama told a group of young people on Monday that he already knows what his first order of business will be come Jan. 21, 2017, after he's turned over the keys to the White House.

"The first thing I'm probably going to do is catch up on my sleep. I'll probably do that for a couple of months," he said to laughs at a Washington, D.C. meeting of the Young African Leaders Initiative, where some 750 members serenaded him with "Happy Birthday!"

Why Does President Obama Have Royal Envy?

Obama, coming off what looked like a relaxing pre-birthday weekend of golf and Camp David with old friends including former personal aide Reggie Love, added that he'll have some more ambitious retirement goals, too.

"I can guarantee you that one of the things I'm interested in doing when I leave office," Obama said, "is to continue to create these platforms for young leadership across the globe, to network, get relationships, to work together, to learn with each other."
