President Obama, Feeling Confident, Muses About Third Term: 'I Could Win!'

A jaunty President Obama said Tuesday that he was feeling pretty good about his chances of winning a third term in the White House.

If only it were legal.

Speaking to a meeting of the African Union, Obama chided leaders on the continent who refuse to step down when their terms end.

"Now, let me be honest with you," Obama said with a chuckle, "I do not understand this."

Why Does President Obama Have Royal Envy?

Calling the United States presidency a great honor and the most interesting job he can imagine, Obama noted that the Constitution limits America's presidents to two terms.

"I can't run again. I actually think I'm a pretty good president. I think if I ran I could win ... There's a lot that I'd like to do to keep America moving, but the law is the law."

And there's an upside, he admitted.

"I'm looking forward to life after being president. I won't have such a big security detail all the time. It means I can go take a walk. I can spend time with my family. I can find other ways to serve. I can visit Africa more often. The point is, I don't understand why people want to stay so long."

To laughter and applause, he added enigmatically: "Especially when they've got a lot of money."
