After the horrible winter most of America suffered through in 2014, summer couldn't come soon enough. But like a rude party guest, shortly after summer arrived it began announcing its imminent departure.

Yes, we know that every summer will be followed by a winter – but why do we have to push things further? It seems like every year we've barely gotten into a new season when suddenly – inexplicably – it's time to start looking forward to the next one.

Don't believe us? Check out these six examples of seasonal creep, below.

Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Lattes … in August!

The favored autumnal pick-me-up of spin classes everywhere came back earlier than expected this year; Starbucks re-introduced the drink to selected menus on August 26. Warm cinnamon and nutmeg – just in time for that last summer heat wave.

Christmas Decorations … in August

One used to be able to count on Thanksgiving to hold back the tide of Christmas decorations in America's superstores. Not anymore. Retailers now offer Christmas discounts throughout the summer, months before the actual holiday season gets under way. Fortunately, sanity usually prevails: Research shows that most of these promotions don't work.

Back to School Shopping … in July

As anyone who's worked retail knows, the week after July 4 is marked by one of the biggest overnight shifts in the business: the transition from summer clothes to the hoodies and khakis of the back-to-school season. If that's depressing for salespeople, imagine how it must feel for schoolchildren, most of whom started their summer vacations scant weeks earlier.

Winter Coats … in August

A corollary of the above, for adults. There's nothing more disheartening than looking for the perfect pair of shorts for that summer barbecue, only to see the shop racks filled up with down jackets and faux fur.

Wearing Shorts in April and Sweaters in September

It's not just corporations. We meager humans can't resist jumping into the next season before its time. After all, once you've bought all these great new seasonal clothes, why wait to wear them? This is often a curse inflicted upon the more fashion-forward members of the populace, who can be seen shivering through their shorts in the waning days of spring, then sweating through their cardigans in early September.

Leaves Changing Colors … in the Summer

But we can't blame humans too much for seasonal creep. Earth is getting into the trend, too. In 2014, autumn couldn't wait for summer to end – traditional signs of fall began appearing as early as June. Scientists blame a stormy winter, but if we had to guess, we'd say Mother Earth is just preparing the scenery – all those #PSL Instagrams need to have their proper backdrops.
