Things got heated on Monday's The Real Housewives of Orange County as Vicki Gunvalson and Meghan King Edmonds fought over whether wives should work.
The pre-Tahitian tension started at a game night party Edmonds held for the wives when Gunvalson arrived late and wanted to leave early because she was both bored and tired.
"Vicki snoring like that is classless," said Edmonds of Gunvalson's faux snorts to indicate she was over game night. "It's rude."
"You don't just say, 'Sorry, rude, skipping out,' " said Heather Dubrow. "Be game at game night."
But things got real gamey (and thorny) once the wives got to Tahiti.
"Before my mom passed away, she said to take time for myself … I'm going to take my mom's advice and smell the roses," Gunvalson said when she arrived in French Polynesia and tried heal her heart following the unexpected death of her mother.
Can Real Housewives of Orange County Star Vicki Gunvalson Sew a Button?
"If I didn't work … If I didn't bring a paycheck home, I'd ask my husband," Gunvalson said as the wives shopped in a jewelry store for pricey pearls and the conversation turned to stay-at-home moms versus working moms and whether they needed permission to buy a luxury item or not. "That's how women get themselves into the trouble … they spend their husband's money."
"First of all, I don't go to work, but I work … for my family," said a sick Shannon Beador. "I'm a stay-at-home mom."
"If I were a husband, and my wife was out spending my money, I'd be pissed," Gunvalson continued. "I've never been privileged in a marriage that my husband took care of me … When you become the breadwinner, let's see how you feel when he goes out and spends your money."
"Why is Vicki so heated about this?" asked Edmonds.
"I think she's referring to gold diggers," said Tamra Judge.
"Maybe she's referring to me as a gold digger," said Edmonds. "Maybe she's jealous of my situation."
"Money causes a lot of marriage issues," said Gunvalson, who wouldn't let it drop when the wives later had cocktails and she asked Edmonds if she worked.
"I sold medical devices," she said.
"How come you quit?" asked Gunvalson.
"We fell in love," Edmonds replied.
"You can fall in love and still work," said Gunvalson. "I don't think it's a good idea she quit."
Concluded the OG of the OC: "What's Meghan going to do when Jim moves on to wife number four? What does Meghan do to bring in money? Looks like she goes to her husband for it."
The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Mondays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
