It's lines like that that give you a taste of what kind of superhero movie Deadpool will be. The film stars Ryan Reynolds as Wade Wilson, a.k.a. the supersoldier Deadpool, who has a grim backstory but still takes time to crack wise. (And in the case of his particular line, Reynolds is also making fun of his previous superhero effort, 2011's unsuccessful Green Lantern.)
Reynolds, 38, technically played the character before – in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine – but the Marvel cinematic universe is calling a mulligan on that radically different take on Deadpool. Based on the NSFW red band trailer, which went live Tuesday night, this new movie is keeping the character closer to his portrayal in the comics: deadly but motormouthed.
Ryan Reynolds' Changing Looks
And though the film doesn't take place in the same realm as the Avengers movies, it does still share the same universe as the X-Men series. (The X-Men character Colossus will be appearing, though actor Andre Tricoteux will be taking over the role from Daniel Cudmore, who has been playing it since 2003.)
In addition to Reynolds, the film stars Morena Baccarin, Game of Thrones' Ed Skrein, Silicon Valley's T.J. Miller, Fast & Furious 6's Gina Carano and Tony and Emmy award-winner Leslie Uggams.
Deadpool will hit theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
