Celebrity chef Sandra Lee is not facing her battle with breast cancer lying down – the Food Network star bravely walked into the operating room for surgery on Tuesday.

"Once again, Sandra chose to walk into the O.R. instead of being wheeled in on a gurney," her team wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday. Her longtime partner, New York "Governor Cuomo walked in with her, holding her hand. For you style watchers, the Governor was dressed head to toe in turquoise scrubs and a white surgical mask and Sandra¹s hospital gown was lavender – her slip-on socks were heather gray. As usual they made quite the striking couple."

Lee, 48, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in March and underwent a double mastectomy in May, was hospitalized for several days last week due to an infection.

On Monday she revealed that she was having surgery to treat complications from her mastectomy and was spotted walking on the streets of Manhattan on Tuesday, dressed in head to toe black as she headed to the hospital for her surgery.

"Infection is an incredible monster," she wrote on Facebook. "I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey."

The TV chef asked her team to share the U2 tune "Song for Someone" with fans. The love song was written by singer Bono for his wife, Ali Hewson.

Lee was later brought into the recovery room after her two-hour-long surgery, according to an update posted on her Facebook page on Tuesday night.

Cuomo remained by her side as she recovered from the effects of the anesthesia but Lee insisted that he and the nurses get some dinner – and some ice cream for dessert.

Proving that she still has some fight left in her, even when groggy, "Sandra was very thirsty but the nurses told her she still had to wait drink water – but maybe they could negotiate with an ice chip?" her team wrote in the Facebook update. "Sandra lifted her head slightly and said '...Water WAS my negotiation...I'd really love a nice glass of rose...' "

Lee is eager to take the next step in her recovery – "She wants to" be released tomorrow, her rep tells PEOPLE, "But it might be another day or two."
