Celebrity chef Sandra Lee is scheduled for surgery in New York City this afternoon “for a post-operative infection” related to her recent mastectomy, PEOPLE has confirmed.

Last week the girlfriend of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo was rushed to the hospital with the infection, for which she was treated with antibiotics. "She has tried hard to avoid surgery, but with no luck," says her rep. "She just wants to finish this part of her life and be healthy and well. She would like to fast forward to the future."

In a Facebook message to fans on Monday, she said: "I did my very best to avoid this (when I tell you I did everything, I mean everything – modern, Eastern and holistic) but infection is an incredible monster."

"I am a long way from where I was and a long way from where I need to be, but at this point I understand that right now I just need to complete this unexpected phase of a tough journey."

Lee, 48, underwent a double mastectomy in May after being diagnosed with breast cancer in March.

In a post on Facebook last week, her team wrote that Lee "has experienced several complications pre and post surgery" and was hoping to avoid any further surgeries until her final reconstruction.

Sharing a pic with her longtime partner, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Lee wrote in her post on Monday that she was looking at her battle "like a tennis match."

"Right now the ball is in my court and it's time for a mean backhand," she wrote. "So my plan for tomorrow is game, set, match!"

Dear Facebook Family, I wanted to send you this note personally.Andrew and I have decided that tomorrow I will go...
