Saturday Night Live returned for its 40th season this weekend, hosted by Chris Pratt, fresh off the mammoth success of Guardians of the Galaxy.

How'd the show do on this important work anniversary? Let's take a look.

Monologue

Pratt, 35, brought his trademark "human Labrador retriever puppy" enthusiasm to his monologue, but some jitters were still obvious. Fortunately, wife Anna Faris was on-hand to bolster his nerves, and Pratt pulled out an acoustic guitar to sing a ballad about the pair's relationship: "We had sex, and a baby popped out."

He-Man and Lion-O Come Alive

Ever wish your toys could come alive when you were a kid? That's the central premise of this sketch, in which Pratt and Taran Killam turn into real-life versions of He-Man and Lion-O (from Thundercats), respectively. They're not… smart. Also, Ariana Grande pops up as She-Ra! The sketch feels a little half-baked, but still inspired.

Flirting with Rap Songs

Warning: Mildly NSFW
Aidy Bryant and Pratt awkwardly flirt with rap songs. That's about it, but it's definitely funnier in execution than description. Plus, it's great to see Pratt's rap chops getting some use.

Marvel Can't Fail

The central premise of this video short is that Marvel's Guardians-related success has gone to their heads. The next project they're pushing? Creatures of the Cosmos, starring a pastry chef, a Harlem Globetrotter, an alien real estate sign-spinner, "a dude dressed as Grimace" and ... an office chair. Plus Pam 2: The Winter Pam.

Ariana Grande, "Break Free"

Grande, 21, brought her mini-Mariah vocal chops, some kitty ears and her occasionally questionable enunciation to bear on a great performance of "Break Free" from her album My Everything.
