Scott Weiland's bandmate Tommy Black will not face drug possession charges related to the Stone Temple Pilots frontman's death, police confirm to PEOPLE.

Deputy Bloomington Police Chief Mike Hartley says that they never filed charges after "weighing what it would take to probe the narcotics charges against" Black.

The news was first reported by rock music website Alternative Nation, which Black seemingly confirmed on Saturday when he shared the article on his Facebook page.

Weiland, 48, was found dead in his bus on Dec. 3 while out on tour his band, The Wildabouts, in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Black was arrested on Dec. 4 after detectives alleged that they found a substance that "field tested positive as cocaine" on the tour bus the two musicians shared.

"[The narcotics] were found in a bunk and obviously with several people residing on a bus a number of people could have potentially possessed those narcotics, so at the end of the day we decided not to pursue charges against him," Hartley tells PEOPLE.

On Friday, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office said that Weiland had died from an accentual overdose and that a mix of cocaine, ethanol (alcohol), and MDA (a relative of ecstasy) led to the rock star's death.

The singer was survived by wife Jamie Wachtel and two children he shared with ex-wife Mary Forsberg Weiland – Noah, 15, and Lucy, 13.

"The outpouring of condolences and prayers offered to our children, Noah and Lucy, has been overwhelming, appreciated and even comforting," wrote Mary in an emotional Rolling Stone piece touching on Weiland's addiction issues. "But the truth is, like so many other kids, they lost their father years ago. What they truly lost on December 3rd was hope."
