Alison and Tom Benassi, who live near Philadelphia, got pregnant using IVF, and made the choice to donate their unused embryos to other couples looking to have a child.
Another family, the Josephs, were also experiencing difficulty conceiving, and accepted one of the Benassis' embryos.
Now, their two daughters – Jamie Benassi, 10, and Piper Joseph, 9 – have finally met each other. "It's been an instant connection. You would never know that they didn't know each other for the first 9 years," one of their fathers told 6ABC.
"We do act like sisters. We do argue sometimes," the girls added.
The Josephs are using their story to urge every couple who has frozen embryos to consider giving them up for adoption.
