One of the two girls accused of stabbing their friend 19 times
was declared not competent to stand trial after being evaluated by two doctors, according to a report discussed during a hearing earlier this week.
A judge ordered an examination of whether "mental disease or defect"
will be an issue in the trial of Morgan Geyser, one of two 12-year-old girls charged as an adult for attempted homicide, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Geyser and Anisa Weier, 12, are accused of stabbing their friend in a wooded area near their Waukesha, Wisconsin, home on May 31. Geyser and Weier told police they stabbed their friend in homage to Slender Man
, a fictional character on the Internet.
The survivor, whose family has asked that her identity not be revealed, continues to heal at her home
. In a statement, her family says, "Our daughter and our entire family continue to focus on both her physical and emotional healing. She continues to amaze us in her ability to persevere and move forward – taking one day at a time."
For now, Weier's competency has not been evaluated. The girls will return to Waukesha County Court on Aug. 1.
