For those who feel Taylor Swift's music isn't really country, this time around, the singer tends to agree.

"This is my very first official, documented pop album," Swift said during a Monday live stream announcing her fifth record, 1989.

The singer, 24, revealed that the late '80s served as inspiration for the album, due out Oct. 27 – even though she was only alive for one year of the decade.

"I loved the chances they were taking," said Swift of the era. "It was apparently a time of limitless potential ... The idea of that was so inspiring to me."

To debut her next single, "Shake It Off," Swift started an impromptu dance party, along with the video for the tune.

With the lyrics, "I go on too many dates / But I can't make them stay / That's what people say," it sounds like another sure hit, ripped right from Swift's personal life.

"The idea I came up with … I had to learn a pretty tough lesson in the past couple of years, that people can say anything they want about us at any time and we cannot control it," she explains. "You can descend into insanity over it if you want. Option two is you can just shake it off."
