The 39-year-old staff member, who has not yet been identified, was arrested for physical abuse of a child, police tell PEOPLE.
The video, which was captured by a student in the classroom, shows the teacher's aide allegedly shoving a 14-year-old student onto a desk, grabbing his neck and pushing him to the floor.
On Wednesday, the staff member was teaching a 9th grade biology class at Bay View High School when he allegedly attacked the boy.
James Sinkey, a grandparent of one of the student's classmates, says he's glad the aide has been arrested.
"They should have walked him out and locked him up right then and there," he tells PEOPLE. "You don't have to do nothing like that to a 14-year-old unless he was pulling out a knife or a gun."
Sinkey says the teacher's aide is known to be mean.
"The guy is mean to everybody," he tells PEOPLE. "No one really likes him." Want to keep up with the latest crime coverage? Click here to get breaking crime news, ongoing trial coverage and details of intriguing unsolved cases in the True Crime Newsletter.
The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police say.
When the investigation is complete, the case will be presented to the Milwaukee District Attorney's office.
This isn't the first time a teacher has been caught on camera harming a student– in March a special education teacher in Georgia was allegedly captured pushing a 4-year-old special-needs student to the ground.
