Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan and Carlton Cuse's new vampire-meets-epidemiology show The Strain premiered on FX Sunday, and if the Monday morning Internet reaction is any indication, the show is going to be a hit.

Social media is hopping over the show's blend of gross-out effects, monsters and atmospheric horror. We'll obviously have to wait a little while to see if that combination translates to ratings success for FX, but in the meantime, let's see what Twitter had to say about the show's premiere, shall we?

Vulture's reviewer, Matt Zoller Seitz, set the tone of discourse early, questioning series lead Corey Stoll's hairpiece ...

... Apparently something on other people's minds as well.

The use of Neil Diamond's inescapable hit during one gross-out scene had some viewers reeling.

The coroner's shocking lack of basic hygiene precautions in the aforementioned scene was noteworthy as well.

This is a really good point: Have characters in movies and television ever seen a movie or TV show where the seemingly-crazy old man turns out to be right? Or does that trope just not exist in Fiction World?

Other people just focused on the show's eye-grabbing (double meaning!) publicity campaign ahead of the premiere.

Finally, at least one Twitter user was left with the nagging feeling that a vampire/worm-monster epidemic isn't that far off. Guess we'll all just have to tune in next week to find out.
