The Walking Dead: Creator Robert Kirkman Finally Reveals Daryl's Sexuality

While there are many die-hard Caryl and Bethyl shippers who have argued for Daryl's heterosexuality, others have maintained that Daryl is gay. (Others, too, argued that Daryl could be bisexual.)
Given that he's never had any truly romantic interaction with any member of Rick's traveling band while on the run from Walkers and cannibals, the possibility of him being completely asexual has also been discussed.
However, on Sunday's Talking Dead, following a pretty devastating midseason finale, creator Robert Kirkman finally set the record straight for the many, many inquiring minds:
"Daryl Dixon is being somewhat asexual on the show," said Kirkman. "I think that he's a very introverted character and I think that's somewhat his appeal. I do have to clear something up, though. In the Walking Dead letters column in the old comic book that I do, there was a question that made me mention that there was a possibility early on about making Daryl Dixon's character gay and it caused quite a hubbub online."
"I just wanted to make it clear that I was saying that the possibility is there and I would've been fine with it, the network would have been fine with it, but we ultimately didn't do that. I can make it official – Daryl Dixon is actually straight."
Well, that's that!
"But, coming back in our next half of the season, we're going to be introducing a very prominent gay character from the comics that'll be debuting," Kirkman added.
Many fans of the comic book series have pointed out that the gay character in question is likely to be Aaron, a recruiter from the Alexandra Safe-Zone. As the trailer for the latter half of the season reveals, it looks like our intrepid heroes are indeed headed in that direction.
But, there you have it, folks: Daryl Dixon is straight. To find out if the series continues to explore Daryl's asexuality, fans will have to wait until Season 5 returns on Feb. 8.
