"We joked with him, asking if we could take it for a drive," one of Barnett's employees, Eric Tejeda, told AZFamily.com.
Barnett did slightly more than that: He sold the Corvette and the watch, and along with a few others, added some of their own funds to the pot, and handed it out to over 100 of their employees. $120,000 in total went out, in sums ranging from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars.
"I just couldn't believe it. I was in shock," Charity Callahan, a 15-year employee, said. "It was almost an entire month's worth of pay for me. They made us all feel appreciated."
Fernando Enriquez, a manager at a Burger King location in Phoenix, said he was able to pay off his children's school fees and his car payments with the windfall.
"My mom had surgery during that time, so I was able to send her some money too," he said. "It is special because we as managers … we know there's good people on top," he added.
