The contenders for this year's Tony Awards have been announced – and to no surprise, Hamilton stole the show, while making history.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's hip-hop-infused Broadway hit snagged a record-breaking 16 nominations, including best musical and three nods for Miranda himself: best leading actor in a musical, best original score and best book of a musical.

The musical Shuffle Along, Or the Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed trailed Hamilton with a total of 10 nominations.

Other notable stars who snagged noms include Jeff Daniels and Michelle Williams for their performances in Blackbird, Lupita Nyong'o for Eclipsed and Sara Bareilles for her music in Waitress.

Jessica Lange and Michael Shannon were also honored for their performances in Long Day's Journey into Night, along with Jonathan Groff in Hamilton, Danielle Brooks in The Color Purple and Jane Krakowski in She Loves Me.

Tony Award winner Nikki M. James and previous Tony nominee Andrew Rannells announced the nominations live Tuesday morning.
