Corey Lewandowski, who runs Donald Trump's campaign, will not face prosecution over allegations that he assaulted a journalist, according to reports.

Although no criminal legal action against Lewandowski will continue, Michelle Fields – the reporter involved in the run-in – can still bring a defamation suit against Lewandowski, a source close to the matter told Politico.

Palm Beach County State Attorney David Aronberg is reportedly expected to announce the decision to no press charges on Thursday.

Lewandowski was charged with simple battery in March for allegedly grabbing the arm of Fields, who's a reporter for Breitbart.com. The incident allegedly occurred at a Trump rally on March 8, when Field tried to ask Trump a question.

Following the encounter, the Trump campaign issued a statement saying that Lewandowski was "absolutely innocent of this charge."

"He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated."
