If you want to know if he loves you so, Usher says it's all in the kiss.

The Confessions crooner and judge on NBC's The Voice has released the first single, "Good Kisser", from his upcoming, as-yet-untitled album, which is due this fall.

And one thing is clear: He's into locking lips.

"A kiss is everything," the Grammy winner, 35, reveals to PEOPLE. "You can always tell there's something great about a person from the way they kiss. If they can't kiss, you're like, 'Oh no, this is not going to work.' "

So what does the sexy R&B singer, who is known for his swagger and stroll, think makes a good kiss?

"The wetter, the better," he says. "[But] it has to be electrifying from the first touch – you know it's incredible."

Of course, there's a lot more that goes into seducing the crooner, who – when prodded whether or not he's single – would only tease, "I'm not married."

Some other dos? "I can always tell a lot about a woman by the way she dresses, and the way she walks," he says. "It doesn't have to be scantily clad, that's always a sign for me."

Another plus for the crooner? "Lipstick is very important for me," he says. "I love a woman with nice lipstick."

But, Usher warns, "a pet peeve of mine is when a woman has makeup on her teeth. It's always funny – you'll be in the middle of a conversation and she's so sexy, [but] when she gets that little smudge on her teeth, it's a wrap."

Still, the singer readily admits that romantic chemistry isn't an exact science.

"There is always mystery," Usher muses. "So I hope you find the magic in it."
