Gibson, who has been battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia since 2012, realized his dream of joining his favorite team thanks to Anything Can Be, a Make a Wish-style project that helps children fighting cancer.
According to Salt Lake City's Deseret News, the "free agent" signed his contract with a purple crayon.
J.P.'s father, Josh Gibson, told the newspaper that the event was more than he or his family could have hoped for. "We had no clue anything like this was going to happen. We just thought a little quick picture and [we'd] be done," he was quoted as saying. "The Jazz have been great at making this dream come true."
