Even though Valerie Harper assured fans Friday that she is not in a coma following her hospitalization Wednesday, she is bowing out of the musical she starred in before falling ill.

The Ogunquit Playhouse, the Maine theater putting on a production of Nice Work If You Can Get It, announced Saturday that Academy Award-nominated actress Brenda Vaccaro will be taking over the role of Millicent Winter through the Aug. 15 end of the play's run.

"Valerie is feeling great right now and we want her to continue to rest and to enjoy her family. After discussing with them, we decided that we wanted to relieve her of any pressure of having to return to the show, which only runs for two more weeks," the playhouse's artistic director Bradford Kenney said in a press release. "With Valerie's blessing, the Ogunquit Playhouse is thrilled to announce that Brenda Vaccaro, star of film, television and stage, has arrived in Ogunquit to take over the role of Millicent Winter."

Harper, 75, reportedly collapsed backstage during a Nice Work If You Can Get It performance Wednesday, and Kenney confirmed that she had been taken to a local hospital "as a precaution."

Harper, who revealed in 2013 that she is battling terminal brain cancer, thanked her fans for their support in a Facebook post on Friday.

"I am happy to report that I am not, nor have I been, in a coma," she wrote. "As anyone who has taken strong medication knows, it doesn't always agree with you, even with me as this experience proves. I am confronting these hurdles with my usual enthusiasm and love of life."
