Flores, 23, started to cry on the field during a game against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night when he heard a rumor that he was being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers as part of deal for All-Star outfielder Carlos Gómez.
The news was apparently too much to bear for Flores, who has been with the Mets since he was just 16 years old.
The way that midseason trades work, if the rumor turned out to be true, Flores would have been gone the very next day and he'd have no say in the matter.
Fortunately for Flores, the deal fell through because of concerns about Gómez's health, Sports Illustrated reports.
As rumors of the trade began to swirl on social media and made their through the stadium, Flores received a standing ovation from the fans.
On Thursday, Mets manager Terry Collins showed his support and reminded Flores he was still an important part of the team.
"I thought it was a great tribute for Flo, and I told him this morning, 'You better take that as a compliment.' [The fans] showed their thanks," he told the New York Post.
