How has fatherhood changed the career choices of Jay Mohr, known for his snarky lead role in 1999's FOX comedy Action and his turn as the backstabbing sports agent Bob Sugar in 1996's Jerry Maguire? For one thing, it has lowered his standards. "I've got a kid, man, so there's no 'selling out,'" says the actor. "I'll sell tampons." Currently starring as Ed Burns's clueless pal in the comedy The Groomsmen, the actor, 36, who has a 3-year-old son, Jackson, with his ex, actress Nicole Chamberlain, adds, "I didn't take this part because he was softer or anything like that. Actors who tell you things like that are usually the ones making $20 million a film. They can choose discriminately. It's certainly a brand-new middle class, but I [just] wanted a f—— job!
KIEFER'S ADRENALINE RUSH
Kiefer Sutherland races to foil terrorist plots on his FOX drama 24, but has the actor ever felt so time-pressed? "The biggest rush I've ever been in is when my [ex-]] wife, Camelia, went into labor early while I was shooting [1988's] Young Guns," says the actor, 39. "I was on a horse, and they pulled me off, got me changed and flew me back to Los Angeles. I got there within 20 minutes of the baby [being born]." Sutherland's harried arrival alarmed hospital staffers. "I still had blood caked on my ear from filming," he says. "So when I walked in, they thought I needed care."
GYLLENHAAL'S BIRTHDAY SUIT
Most would cringe at the thought of baring all in front of their parents, but Maggie Gyllenhaal has no qualms. "My parents are pretty mellow—I let them see [my nude scenes]," says the actress, 28, who went topless for her drama Sherrybaby, due Aug. 25. Dad Stephen Gyllenhaal, a director, and mom, Naomi Foner, a screenwriter, apparently attribute their nonchalance to early exposure. Once when she played a stripper in a play, says Gyllenhaal, "Someone said, 'How can you stand watching your daughter do this?' My dad said, 'Come on! I changed her diapers!'"
John Tucker Must Die's JESSE METCALFE ON ...
Getting dumped: The best revenge is just acting like you don't care.
Nixing a scene in the film: The first idea was for me to shave my entire body. That wouldn't have been funny. So I went with wearing a thong.
Fitting into said thong: I can't speak about any other guys' thongs, but I can tell you that mine in particular was customized.
His best pick-up line: I don't use pick-up lines. You can say just about anything to a girl if she thinks you're cute.
