Behind the Scenes
What Was It Like Making High School Musical 2? Take a Peek Backstage!
"I was in the middle of the dance and a desk fell on my foot," says Zac Efron of filming the opening number, "What Time is It?" "The medics thought I'd broken it, but it was just really swollen."
"We're so close now," says Vanessa Hudgens of her costars. "We lean on each other. It's like a family."
"I must say they've all grown in really special ways," says director Kenny Ortega (embracing Monique Coleman and Corbin Bleu) of the cast.
"Kelsi is more social" in HSM2, says Olesya Rulin (in the hair and makeup room). "And she gets to sing!"
"At the mall, fans mob him constantly," says Ashley Tisdale of Zac. "But who wouldn't?"
After filming the scene where Troy gets his first job—as a waiter—Zac chilled out with Vanessa.
CHICKEN CORBIN BLEU?
"He gets hyper and does odd things sometimes," says Vanessa. Corbin donned a saucepan hat for the song "Work This Out."
"When I'm out with friends they tell people, 'Do you know who this is?'" says Ryne Sanborn (Jason) with Kaycee Stroh (Martha). "It's hilarious!"
Ashley poses with a Sharpay pop-up doll—a "gift" for Mrs. Darbus in the movie.
"We get so slaphappy when we're working really late," says Vanessa. "I'll sing, like, 'I'm A Little Teapot.'"
"In this movie, everything's been kicked up a notch for sure," says Zac (prepping for a scene with Ortega, left, and crew in a country club kitchen).
THEIR ACHING FEET!
The high heels that Sharpay and Gabrielle wear can really hurt. That's why the costume crew brought special fluffy slippers for Vanessa and Ashley to wear in between takes. (Lucky Monique gets to wear sneakers for the dance scenes.) "Thank God for slippers!" Vanessa says. "My shoes hurt, man, especially my toes!" Ashley agrees. "I'm getting really bad blisters!" she says. "I had so much fun dancing, but I was sore afterward. My feet were killing me!"
One of Monique's favorite things to do on the set? Try on all the shoes in the wardrobe department!
ALL THAT GLITTERS
"All of Sharpay's clothing drips with rhinestones," says Ashley. "The wardrobe department bedazzled everything!"
COMING OF AGE
Corbin (with Monique) turned 18 while filming. "Everybody sang for me," he says.
"Working out is my biggest hobby," says Zac (on set). "It's my Zen hour. I just zone out."
