He once fantasized in song about dumping her body in a lake, but Eminem and his ex-wife Kim Mathers seemed to put their troubled past behind them when they remarried Jan. 14. Less than three months later, the relationship appears sunk. Sources say the couple began having problems just two weeks into marriage No. 2, and soon after, Eminem, 33, moved out of their suburban Detroit home. On April 5 he filed divorce papers, and the next day Kim, 31, went on the radio and implied her once and future ex-husband had relapsed into sleep medication dependency. Eminem's friends insist he's not using drugs, and the rapper denied the "untrue and unfortunate" allegations in a statement. One thing the couple—who signed a prenup a week before the wedding—do agree about is the care of their daughter Hailie Jade, 10, and Kim's niece Alaina, 12. "We always tell each other, whatever makes them happy is what we want," Kim told Detroit radio station WKQI-FM. Adding to Eminem's woes was the news six days later that his best man, rapper Proof, was shot and killed at a Detroit club. "He's really messed up," a friend says of Eminem's reaction to the news. As his attorney Harvey Hauer told WKQI-FM, "He wants his private life to be as personal as possible."
