Officially he was the "Comeback" honoree, but for BEN AFFLECK, the GQ Men of the Year dinner served a higher purpose. "We get to have a date, my wife and I," the actor told Insider at the L.A. affair Nov. 29. Throughout the event (which also feted the mag's "Leading Man," LEONARDO DICAPRIO), Affleck and JENNIFER GARNER looked "very cute and affectionate," says a fellow guest. Added the actor: "I literally almost never go out, so this is a fun and rare thing." As for the other woman in his life—1-year-old daughter Violet—what's Dad's favorite bonding time? "All the time."
NIGHT OF NEAR MISSES
Even Cover Girls have fashion emergencies. When CHRISTIE BRINKLEY had her Donna Karan dress altered for a Dec. 2 event at her son Jack's school, "it was returned so tight!" Brinkley told Insider just hours later, at a benefit for Ross School in East Hampton, N.Y., where she was being honored. "It had to be run back to the seamstress for breathing space." She was also looking for personal space: Brinkley carefully avoided estranged husband PETER COOK, who also attended the bash.
FAST TAKES
While in New Orleans to film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, BRAD PITT pulled up a bar stool at Gordon Biersch Brewery during a football game—and almost no one noticed. On any given Sunday, the manager explained, "People don't care if Brad Pitt's here. They're watching the Saints."
On Dec. 3 KEITH URBAN was spotted out in L.A. with NICOLE KIDMAN, fueling speculation that he'd finished rehab for alcohol abuse. Not so, says his rep: "At this stage, patients are occasionally allowed to leave for short periods of time."
At the VH1 Big in '06 Awards in L.A. Dec. 2, FERGIE told Insider she and JOSH DUHAMEL had a little pre-party the night before. Asked what they did, she coyly replied, "It wasn't dinner!"
