Kirsten Dunst's recent visit to Manhattan's SoHo Grand Hotel, where the actress, 25, was filming How to Lose Friends & Alienate People, proved to be not so grand. Thieves entered a room reserved for the cast and stole a $13,000 handbag, $2,500 in cash, credit and ID cards, two digital cameras, a cell phone and an iPod music player. Police said a surveillance camera caught two suspects, who were arrested on burglary and grand larceny charges.... Hawaii-bred Bette Midler, 61, agreed to pay $6,500 in fines for having more than 230 trees cut down near her Kauai island property without permission, her attorney said Aug. 22. Midler—a longtime environmentalist once dubbed the Compost Queen—will also follow a replanting program, her lawyer told the Associated Press, adding that she was unaware that a permit was required to remove the trees.... Lindsay Lohan, 21, will spend just one day in jail after reaching a plea deal in Los Angeles Aug. 23 on DUI and drug charges. A judge also ordered the actress to complete 10 days of community service, an 18-month drug-treatment program and a three-day assignment visiting a morgue and talking to victims of drunken drivers. "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs," Lohan said in a statement.... Mel Gibson (inset), 51, currently on probation for DUI, received a favorable response from a Malibu judge at an Aug. 23 progress hearing. Gibson's attorney noted he had completed 4 1/2 months of Alcoholics Anonymous meetings and paid his fines. The judge said Gibson's AA participation is now voluntary and that he must appear at the next court date on Feb. 15, 2008.
Rules of Engagement star Oliver Hudson, 31, became a first-time dad—and his mom, Goldie Hawn, became a second-time grandma—when he and his wife, actress Erinn Bartlett, 34, welcomed son Wilder in L.A. Aug. 23, a few weeks before the due date. "I'm so tired, but I'm on a high, and I want to take in all of it," Hudson told E! News. Bartlett appeared in the 2004 film Raising Helen, starring Hudson's sister Kate, mother of Hawn's other grandson, Ryder, 3.... It's a girl for The Namesake star Jacinda Barrett and her husband, actor Gabriel Macht (Because I Said So), both 35, who greeted their first child, Satine, Aug. 20 in Los Angeles. "Mum and Satine are happy and healthy," the Aussie actress's rep tells PEOPLE.
Jason Wahler, 20, of MTV's The Hills, is set to wed University of Southern California tennis player Katja Decker-Sadowski, 19. He popped the question Aug. 25. No wedding date has been set.
Dancing with the Stars season 3 alumna Willa Ford, 26, strolled down the aisle with Dallas Stars hockey player Mike Modano, 37, Aug. 25 in Athens, Texas. The singer-actress wore a wedding gown she designed herself for the early evening ceremony at a private ranch with 75 guests. This is the first marriage for both, who dated off and on for more than four years before Modano proposed over the 2006 Thanksgiving holiday. Just days after getting engaged, the Florida-bred Ford told PEOPLE, "I'm really one of those old-fashioned Southern girls who wants to get married, have a little time as newlyweds and then have babies."
