New Homes for Celebs' Old Clothes
Stars Often Donate Their Duds to Charities That Auction Them Off to the Highest Bidder. Meet Three Big Winners
Keith Urban's
custom-made Henry Duarte leather jacket from the 2001 Grammys and his jeans
C'DALE GOLOVINE, Houston
Paid: $2,600 at the Celebrity Rags 4 Charity Riches auction for the jacket; $4,000 to the Martina McBride YWCA Celebrity Auction for the jeans
Golovine, 49, has spent $35,000 on her Urban fixation, and admits she's "psychotic" about it. So when she heard a pair of his True Religion jeans were coming up for auction earlier this year, she vowed to make them her own. "I was shaking so bad once they start bidding," she recalls. And while they haven't become part of her everyday wardrobe, the jacket, which she bought in June 2005, has gotten more wear. One place she always takes it: to Urban's concerts. It's the only item in her collection not signed by the singer, and she's hoping to remedy that.
Ellen Pompeo's
Michael Kors gown from the 2005 Emmys
NANCY VICTORY, Great Falls, Va.
Paid: $1,635 at the Clothes Off Our Back Emmy Auction
Victory's husband, Mike Senkowski, was surfing for additions to his sports memorabilia collection when he found and bid on this dress. "It was fabulous-looking on Pompeo, and she and my wife are both a size 2," he says. Only problem: When she actually got to try it on, "I couldn't zip it up," recalls Victory, 44, who had a seamstress let it out in the back in time for her to wear it to a June gala. Was it worth the effort? Undoubtedly. "I would say it was the most spectacular dress in the room," she says.
Jennifer Lopez's
Dolce and Gabbana dress from the 2005 CFDA 7th On Sale Online benefit
OCTOBER SUNSHINE SAYONNE, Eugene, Ore.
Price Paid: $ 3,686.76 at the CFDA 7th On Sale Auction
Though not online looking to buy anything, Celeste, October Sunshine's mom, felt an immediate affinity for this dress. "We both love Jennifer Lopez and Dolce and Gabbana, so we had to have it!" she says of the gift for her daughter. Adds the 14-year-old, who is saving it for a special occasion: "I dream of being an actress, and this helps me feel like it's possible."
