On her new drama Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, Amanda Peet plays a down-to-earth network exec who'd rather crack an occasional joke than cut jobs. At her real-life wedding to screenwriter and fellow New York native David Benioff Sept. 30, Peet's lighter side had an even bigger role. In the couple's self-written vows "they said, 'Nobody makes me laugh as much as you,'" says a guest. Adds another: "Their sense of humor is amazing; you can see their connection 100 miles away."

Or from across the room. During the traditional Jewish ceremony at Manhattan's Friends Seminary, where Peet went to high school, the bride, 34, and groom, 36, were "glowing," says artist Greg Lauren, who was there with his wife, actress Elizabeth Berkley. The couple, who met in 2001 and whose first child is due next spring, stood under an embroidered white chuppah while their rings, tied with ribbon, were passed around to the 140 guests. "It was incredibly personal," says Peet's Studio 60 costar Sarah Paulson.

At the Chelsea Art Museum reception that night, guests ate Maine lobster and beef carpaccio before dancing to a live band until 2 a.m. (though the bride retired an hour earlier). "This was," says Paulson, "the best wedding I've ever been to."
