Cameron's MAGIC MAN
Okay, so Criss Angel can walk on water. But now the illusionist has pulled off a truly dazzling feat: He got the girl. On May 18, Cameron Diaz—who had met the A&E Mindfreak star the week before—jetted to Vegas for a romantic rendezvous, snuggling through dinner at Social House, then slow dancing at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's Body English. "I don't know how to classify them," says one close source. "But she is using the word 'we' to mean her and Criss." (Still, Diaz, 34, was later spotted palling around with surfer Kelly Slater in Hawaii.) When asked by PEOPLE about Diaz, Angel, 39, said simply, "Cam is an amazing person. I'm so honored to be able to call her my friend." Hey, a magician never tells....
HER EX: ALSO MOVING ON
After four months of playing the field post Diaz, is Justin Timberlake ready to "go steady" with Jessica Biel? The two—first linked at a Golden Globe afterparty in January—recently spent several days together in the U.K., where Timberlake was touring. (The two holed up in Manchester's five-star Lowry Hotel and took in a soccer match.) Now "Justin's in love," says a source close to the singer. "She's the coolest chick ever. He wants to be with her all the time. He's ready to be serious." Reps for both had no comment.
Britney Spears
HITS THE ROAD
No one said comebacks were easy. On May 19 Britney Spears, 25, strutted her stuff (including new blonde extensions and an increasingly toned bod) for 14 minutes at the sold-out House of Blues Orlando. But it didn't exactly go off without a hitch. Spears, who has reportedly been lip-synching throughout her recent mini-tour, was surprised when her vocal track started skipping and briefly turned her back on the audience. The next night at Mansion in Miami, the visibly flustered singer dashed off stage when her beaded bra broke. (Luckily, she had another one on underneath.) Through it all Britney buffs seemed more than forgiving. "Whether she lip-synchs or not, there's a line around the block," says DJ Tracy Young, who spun at Spears's 21st birthday bash. "I'm looking forward to her comeback. She's going to be fierce."
Keith Urban
BABY TALK
Nicole Kidman, 39, is not pregnant—yet. But husband Keith Urban, 39, already has babies on the brain. When asked recently if he was looking forward to fatherhood, he told the U.K.'s Sunday Times, "I am. Next year actually would be lovely." And as their one-year anniversary approaches, how has marriage changed the country crooner? "Oh God, in every way," gushed the singer, who completed a three-month stint in rehab this January. "I am learning so much about myself from loving her.... It's a beautiful journey."
"Anyone know where I can get a burger?"
—DAVID HASSELHOFF, at a taping of America's Got Talent in Las Vegas May 19, poking fun at the recent video in which the apparently inebriated actor struggled to down a Wendy's hamburger.
An Office star's
BAD BREAK
No laughing matter: The Office's Jenna Fischer, 33, fell down a flight of stairs at New York City restaurant Buddakan May 14 during a party for her NBC hit, fracturing four bones in her lower back. (Her husband, writer-director James Gunn, flew in from L.A. to be by her side at St. Vincent's Hospital, says her rep.) "[Everyone] is taking really good care of me," she tells People. "I'm on the mend." Fischer is expected to be fully recovered when the show resumes filming this summer.
Jessica & John
ON AGAIN, OFF AGAIN
For Jessica Simpson and John Mayer, breaking up really is hard to do. Sources say the couple of nine months split in mid-May. ("John ended it," a source said at the time.) But on May 20, they shared a cozy dinner in New York City with friends and holed up at the SoHo Grand hotel. What gives with the dizzying game of red-light, green-light? "I have no idea what will happen with them tomorrow," says one pal. "I don't think they're sure."
Hollywood's Hottest ... Slide?
The newest hot spot for young Hollywood? It's not a trendy nightclub or posh restaurant. It's a blue plastic slide at Palisades Recreation Center. Ryder Robinson gave in to gravity May 19, followed the next day by Violet Affleck
Violet takes a ride with mom Jennifer Garner.
With mom Kate Hudson watching, Ryder prepares for the plunge.
Reality Roundup
The Bachelor
ENGAGED (For Real!)
No promise ring for Andy Baldwin. The U.S. Navy lieutenant, 30, proposed to social worker Tessa Horst, 26, on the season finale of The Bachelor (taped in mid-March), and here's the shocker: They're still together. "I couldn't be any more in love," he tells PEOPLE. "I was so honored to get down on one knee." (He popped the question with a 2-plus-carat, conflict-free Chopard diamond.) So, what's next? "Within the next month or so I'll be moving to Hawaii," says Horst, who lives in San Francisco and was limited to phone and e-mail contact with the Hawaii-based Baldwin. He adds, "We can't wait ... to spend real time with each other."
American Idol
Own a Piece of Idol
Already suffering from American Idol withdrawal? Get your fix with Clothes Off Our Back's new auction featuring items from favorite Idols past and present. (Think Clay Aiken's button-down or Jordin Sparks's dark blue blouse.) "Why shouldn't celebrities donate our clothes?" muses Kimberley Locke, who's heading up the sale. After all, "once we're photographed in them, we can't wear them again." (Bidding goes through June 15 at clothesoffourback.org, with proceeds going to children's charities.)
Paula Abdul
DOGGIE DRAMA
Call it a dog-day afternoon. American Idol judge Paula Abdul tripped and broke her nose May 19 while trying to avoid stepping on her beloved pet chihuahua Tulip. "[The dog] just stared at me," Abdul, who also suffered bruises on her arms and one of her legs, told People after the fall. "She has no remorse!"
Q & A
MUSIC MAN
Aussie actor-singer-dancer Hugh Jackman adds another title to his packed resume: TV producer
CBS just picked up the Hugh Jackman-produced Viva Laughlin. Yes, the characters occasionally break into song. No, he swears, it's not "a musical." The star, 38—who's married to fellow Aussie Deborra-Lee Furness and is now shooting the WWII drama Australia—chatted with Mark Dagostino.
How's filming going?
It's a dream doing this epic. There's lots of horse riding and guys walking around cracking whips.
And of course there's Nicole Kidman....
She's been a friend of mine for a while, but apart from being penguins in Happy Feet we've never worked [together] in the flesh. She's an incredibly hard worker, incredibly gracious.
Congrats on the new show. Is the world ready for a musical TV drama?
It has musical elements. But it's not a musical in the way we traditionally know it. It's really a murder mystery.
Gotta ask. There was a show in the early '90s ...
Cop Rock.
Exactly. It failed.
I much prefer to be following a bomb than a hit!
Any fun summer plans?
I'm bringing the whole kit and caboodle up [from Sydney] and we're doing a 3½-month adventure in the outback. At times we'll be in tents, we'll be out on Aboriginal land, there'll be crocodiles.... My son [Oscar] just turned 7, my daughter [Ava] is almost 2—she'll forget it, but my son never, ever will. I'm thrilled I have a wife who's up for it!
