For Oliver Hudson and Erinn Bartlett, their seaside nuptials at the One & Only Palmilla resort in Mexico on June 9 were as much a reunion as a wedding. On hand to celebrate was Hudson's entire extended clan: his mom, Goldie Hawn, her longtime love Kurt Russell, their son Wyatt and Russell's son Boston; plus Hudson's younger sister Kate, her husband, Chris Robinson and their son Ryder. "We haven't all been together for years," says Oliver, "so it was really special."
Everyone had a role: During the sunset ceremony, Hawn, 60, walked Hudson, 29, down the aisle, "hand in hand, smiling and talking," says wedding planner Mindy Weiss. Ring bearer Ryder, 2, was guided by his mom, Kate, 27, as he carried the couple's wedding bands on a chain around his neck. Then, over dinner, members of both families took turns giving speeches. "We were in tears," says Bartlett, 33. "At one point we looked at each other and said, 'We are so loved.'"
During the 30-minute Buddhist ceremony, the couple, who met six years ago at a party, exchanged vows they had written themselves. "We tried to be as untraditional as possible," says Hudson. "The truth is, your wedding day is insane. You're standing up there and people are talking about your love and you don't know what is happening." Adds Bartlett: "It's so emotional and intimate and you almost forget everyone else who is there."
The reception, though, was all about celebrating with the 94 guests. After a dinner of strip steak and red snapper and a three-tiered chocolate cake flown in by the Napa Valley's Perfect Endings, the bride and groom took a memorable first dance to George Harrison's version of "If Not for You." Says Bartlett: "We were kissing and staring into each other's eyes. We felt like we were at our eighth-grade prom." This time around, though, they had a much later curfew—the party didn't end until 5:30 a.m. "We only stopped because we had to," says Hudson. "We didn't want to go!"
