Her first days in jail were a flurry of transfers and tears. But now that PARIS HILTON is back at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood, Calif., her life behind bars has settled into a routine. Each day she's released from her 12-by-15-ft. cell in the medical clinic for at least one hour to do things like shower, watch television or make phone calls. (She's had several talks with family friend Julie Araskog, who says, "Now she's more focused on how she can help humanity.")
Meals—like the standard PB&J for lunch—are delivered to the heiress in her cell and, twice a week, on Saturdays and Sundays, she's allowed 30-min. visits. "We talk through glass," mom Kathy told PEOPLE on June 14. "[Paris's sister Nicky] left in hysterics.... I never see Nicky cry."
There were no signs of sobbing June 17, when Kathy and Paris's dad, Rick, paid a joint visit to Inmate No. 9818783. "She made Rick a beautiful Father's Day card," said Kathy. "She's doing as well as she can." Agrees family friend BARBARA WALTERS: "She's paying her dues. When I spoke to Paris, she said she wants to make a difference—and I take her at her word."
BFF'S OF THE WEEK
Their pics don't lie: PENELOPE CRUZ and SHAKIRA have become fast friends, hitting clubs all around Los Angeles. First spotted giggling and grooving during John Mayer's concert afterparty at Parc June 9, the suddenly inseparable stars enjoyed drinks and dancing with a group at Les Deux June 15 (right). Capping their week of revelry? The next night they shared a table at Teddy's with ASHTON KUTCHER and DEMI MOORE—then headed out hand-in-hand. "They're good pals," says a mutual friend. "It's great to see them out together."
FAST TAKES
STAR JONES REYNOLDS helped husband AL celebrate his 37th birthday with a triple-layer chocolate cake at Stereo by the Shore in Southampton, N.Y. The pair then stayed out dancing until 3:30 a.m.
Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants stars ALEXIS BLEDEL, AMBER TAMBLYN, BLAKE LIVELY and AMERICA FERRERA—playing a mean air guitar—all rocked out on June 13 at the Nylon Magazine International Music Issue Party at N.Y.C.'s Irving Plaza.
TOMMY LEE caught ex-wife PAMELA ANDERSON's Las Vegas show, The Beauty of Magic, on June 15 and 16. Each night, after Anderson's final bow, they headed to their reserved table at Planet Hollywood Hotel's Heart Bar, where, a source says, "they were sweet—flirting and giggling."
