Love & Reality
A Survivor Alliance, a Skating Bride, An Apprentice-Extreme Makeover Merger and the Surreal Marital Life of Brigitte Nielsen: Love Is in the Air for Five Reality TV Stars
Even for her wedding day, Survivor star Stephenie LaGrossa had an immunity challenge. Awakened by a stomachache at 3 a.m., "I thought it was nerves, but the whole day I was nauseous," says LaGrossa, who exchanged Catholic vows with her longtime boyfriend, high school history teacher Michael Ward, 33, at a beach-theme wedding on July 7. During the reception at McLoone's Pier House in Long Branch, N.J., LaGrossa, 26, discreetly popped Tums and sipped ginger ale before finally discovering a cure-all. "I just kept dancing because it would make me forget about it," says the bride, who boogied in a Peter Langner gown. It was a small travail compared to her two stints on Survivor. And while eight castaways attended and wedding planner Laura Mastriano added tribal touches like tiki torches to the cocktail hour, the honeymoon in Bali will not resemble the reality competition. "We're not roughing it one bit!" says Ward. "We're taking all the fun and pampering that you can possibly get."
Bill Dorfman & Jennifer Murphy
Perhaps it was professional habit, but during his nuptials to former Apprentice contestant Jennifer Murphy, Extreme Makeover dentist Bill Dorfman couldn't help but focus on her mouth. "I kept wanting to kiss her, but the veil was in the way!" says Dorfman, 47, who wed Murphy, 27, on July 7 at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. The pair—who met at the 2004 Miss USA pageant before she auditioned for Donald Trump's show (she was Miss Oregon; he was Mr. Smitten in the audience)—wrote their own vows, which, says Dorfman, "meant a lot to her. I don't usually speak from my heart in public." Singing, though, was no problem. He and his three daughters serenaded Murphy with Garth Brooks's "Wrapped Up in You" at the reception. "My daughters are crazy about her," says Dorfman. Ditto for Dad.
Brigitte Nielsen & Mattia Dessi
THE SURREAL LIFE
Last year, when The Surreal Life's Brigitte Nielsen, 43, tried to marry Italian model Mattia Dessi, 27, the union didn't stick—her divorce from her fourth husband wasn't quite finalized. This time, with a poolside party for 30 in Malta on July 8, it was for real. Still, what's a Nielsen wedding without something coming undone? The actress's son Killian, 16, stripped off his suit after the ceremony and jumped into the pool. Says her manager: "He was bored."
Jillian Barberie & Grant Reynolds
SKATING WITH CELEBRITIES
The live July 10 broadcast of FOX's Good Day L.A. started with some great news: Anchor and Skating with Celebrities runner-up Jillian Barberie, 39, announced she had gotten hitched on July 7 to actor Grant Reynolds, 33, in her Tarzana, Calif., backyard. "They are madly in love!" says her friend Elizabeth Killmond-Roman. Barberie's "something borrowed"? A Giorgio Armani dress from pal Heather Locklear, who attended the small reception at a local restaurant.
