In the new A&E reality series Sons of Hollywood, Randy Spelling, 28, and his childhood buds (including Sean Stewart, offspring of Rod) spend much of their time drinking, gambling and chasing starlets. Still, Spelling says, the fact that last summer's Sons shoot coincided with the death of his father, Melrose Place producer Aaron Spelling, made the stretch "the toughest time of my life."

• On coping with his father's death: "There were times when I felt I was going crazy," says Spelling of having the Sons cameras in his face while he was mourning. "It was horrible." Still, the show went on: "I couldn't walk away and screw the production, so I'd go off into a corner and cry."

• On Tori's new baby: As his sister Tori was about to give birth March 13, Randy rushed to the hospital to be with her, ending an estrangement dating back to their dad's death. "There are feuds in every family," says Spelling, who adds that Tori's cold war with their mom, Candy, is thawing, too. "My mom [has] a grandchild. It puts things in perspective." Of nephew Liam he says, "I hope I'm good with kids. I guess I'll have to go to a diaper-changing class."

• On living life low-key: Although the single Spelling and his costars frolic mightily on Sons, Spelling insists that, in reality, he's over the Hollywood nightlife. "All those late nights take their toll," he says. "Now, I'm up at 8 and working out. I've lost 20 lbs." With an indie film shooting later this month and two more TV projects in the planning stages, Randy says he has adopted his dad's famous work ethic. "I've played hard, and now it's time to work hard. I want to make my dad proud."
