was a highly visible—and vocal—presence at her 8-year-old daughter Ava's slow-pitch softball game March 24 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. "Ready, girls? Come on, girls!" Locklear shouted. Her enthusiasm remained undimmed even after the arrival a half hour later of her estranged husband, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora, from whom the actress filed for divorce Feb. 2. Spotting Sambora, 46, who was holding his left arm in a sling after breaking it during a fall at home last week, Locklear, 44, got up to greet him, and the two strolled side by side for a while. It was a cozy scene for a couple engaged in a divorce and possible custody dispute. On March 17 Sambora asked for joint custody of Ava. According to a friend, the rocker had been surprised when he learned Locklear wanted him to have visitation rights only. "They need to negotiate and work with each other," says the friend, "because it's in Ava's best interest." With Ava in mind, no doubt, the couple seemed amicable enough on the ball field. After the final out at 5:40 p.m., Locklear gave Sambora a peck on the cheek and a hug. She also planted a farewell kiss on Ava, who rode off with her father in his black Humvee to spend the weekend at their Laguna Beach home.
