Angelina Jolie's Mighty Heart
With Shiloh in Tow, She Hits Washington, D.c., and New York City to Advocate for Needy Kids
Next month Angelina Jolie will star in the film A Mighty Heart (produced by Brad Pitt), in which she plays Mariane Pearl, the widow of Daniel Pearl, the Wall Street Journal reporter murdered in Pakistan in 2002. In a new interview in Glamour, Jolie praises Mariane, who wrote the book on which the movie is based, for her "very clear voice of tolerance and dialogue." On an April 26 trip to Washington, D.C., Jolie herself was speaking out—to lobby the government on behalf of orphans and help launch Global Action for Children, an advocacy group for kids. "I am here to simply ask you to think about orphaned children not as a burden but as a great opportunity," said Jolie, who visited D.C. with her and Pitt's youngest child, daughter Shiloh, 11 months. Then it was off to New York City, where she attended a Tribeca Film Institute screening of A Place in Time, a documentary she funded about cultures around the world. "We all hope it encourages tolerance," says Holly Goline, Jolie's assistant and one of the film's producers. "And a deeper understanding of all people."
