FIRST LOOK!
In the movie, Sharpay (getting an avocado facial) makes a play for Troy, much to Gabriella's chagrin. The sequel's setting is a country club, where the gang goes for the summer, some to work, some to play. Think Dirty Dancing, the next generation.
Will Troy (Efron) and Gabriella (Hudgens) kiss this time? Things seem promising from a scene where Troy gives Gabriella a "T" necklace. The crushes end off-camera, though. "We all had instant relationships like brothers and sisters," says Hudgens (right, goofing around with Efron between takes). "So we look at each other like 'Ew! No way!'"
"I don't think anyone wears this much pink," says Grabeel of his flamboyant character, Ryan, who shows a talent for baseball in the sequel. Recovering from knee surgery, Grabeel wore a brace to film some scenes. "They called me 'Gramps' on the set," he says.
Sharpay's dog Boi (played by director Kenny Ortega's pup Manly) gets some pink highlights at the spa. "He's such a good sport," says Ortega.
Taylor (Monique Coleman, left) advises Gabriella to follow her heart when it comes to Troy. Still, "the movie doesn't have too much of a romantic undertone," says Coleman. "It's about figuring out who you are."
