First, a clarification: Yes, his name is Dancer. Yes, he's small—tiny, in fact. But no, this soon-to-be world-famous Chihuahua is not named after Elton John's hit "Tiny Dancer." "A coincidence," says owner Jenny Gomes. "Besides, he has so much personality, he forgets he's tiny."
If all goes according to plan, on his first birthday, June 8, the dog from Okahumpka, Fla.—who measures 4.1 inches from floor to shoulder—will be certified as the world's smallest living canine in height by Guinness World Records. (Previous record holder Danka Kordak, a 5.4-inch Chihuahua from Slovakia, died last year.) Gomes, 40, is planning a party for the event.
After all, it's a blessing Dancer has made it this far. Born the size of an adult human thumb, Dancer was bottle-fed, says Gomes, who rescued his pregnant mom from an abandoned building. His diet consists of a teaspoon of baby food—he loves turkey—every three hours. Otherwise, he's a cinch to care for. "A man offered me $5,000 for him," says Gomes. "I told him I wouldn't sell Dancer for a million dollars."
