Heavenly Wedding
Touched by An Angel's Roma Downey and Reality TV Mogul Mark Burnett Say 'I Do'
Roma Downey & Mark Burnett Malibu April 28
As the other half of Mark Burnett (the creator-producer of Survivor), Roma Downey has seen more than her share of safari shirts, scuba gear and wild adventures. So when it came to their April 28 wedding, the Touched by an Angel actress insisted upon taking the helm. "I found a beautiful gown," says Downey. "Suddenly I said to Mark, 'Remember that you thought you would wear your jeans rolled up and your linen shirt? Well, you're wearing a suit.' And he just laughed and rolled his eyes."
And so it was that not a single torch was snuffed when Burnett, 46, and Downey, 47, said their vows on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in the backyard of their Malibu home. Officiating at the family-only ceremony was Downey's Angel costar and "adoptive mother" Della Reese, 74, whom, Downey says, "we booked right away." Reilly, Downey's 10-year-old daughter, served as bridesmaid; Burnett's sons James, 13, and Cameron, 10, served as best man and ring bearer.
After a honeymoon in Jordan and England, the couple will return to Malibu as Mr. and Mrs. Burnett. "When and if I work, I will be Roma Downey," she says, "but for everything else I will be Burnett. At this stage of my life I really want to honor my husband. We are like teenagers in love."
