There is tired, and then there is this: Being pregnant while wrangling a toddler in between throwing punches at pretend bad guys. “I'm not sure if my tiredness is from being a mom or a mom-to-be,” says Mira Sorvino, who discovered she was expecting as she began work on The Hades Factor, a CBS miniseries, this winter. “To find out you're pregnant just before you start playing a secret agent is a little intimidating,” says the Oscar winner, who was already juggling a busy career (including a role in the Lifetime miniseries Human Trafficking, which scored her a Golden Globe nomination) while raising daughter Mattea, 14 months, with husband Chris Backus. Now that another baby is on the way, scaling back is in order: Sorvino, 38, is taking a break to spend time with Backus, 24, an actor, and Mattea before the new baby arrives this summer. “I'm so happy to be alone with Mattea now,” she says. “In Malibu, where we live a lot of the time, we're going to do Mommy and Me ballet. It's the cutest thing.”

Also on the agenda: choosing a tummy-accommodating gown for the Globes on Jan. 16. In the meantime, Sorvino says she is eating “a lot of broccoli rabe,” exercising “gently” and enjoying the upside of being a second-time mom: “I'm a little more relaxed. The first time you go through it, you worry every time you trip,” she says. “It's a whole new thing. We're going to be a family of four!”
