For her marriage to music producer Michael Lockwood—her fourth trip down the aisle—Lisa Marie Presley "was adamant about not making a big deal out of it," says wedding planner Kara Keaney. So much so that her new father-in-law, William Lockwood, admits, "I didn't know about it until two weeks before!"

It may not have been a big production, but the Jan. 22 nuptials at a private inn in Kyoto, Japan (a favorite vacation spot of Presley's), was a special one. The 16 guests donned custom-fitted kimonos at the sunset ceremony, where Presley, 38, and Lockwood, 44—who started dating in '03—performed a Japanese sake ritual after exchanging traditional vows.

Never conventional (see marriages 2 and 3 to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage), Elvis's daughter shook things up by having as best man Danny Keough, her ex-husband and father of her kids Riley, 16, and Benjamin, 13—and Lockwood's pal. But it made perfect sense for the pair. "She wanted an intimate gathering of family and friends," says Keaney. "It was unusual, personal and beautiful—just like she envisioned."

THE TRADITIONS At the reception, guests were entertained by a string quartet and a 30-minute showcase performed by three local geisha. "They played [the samisen], sang and danced for us," says Keaney. "Afterwards, they sat down with the guests during dinner and talked to us. It was fascinating."

The MENU Dinner lasted more than three hours—and rightly so. Keaney planned a nine-course feast complete with fried flounder, mackerel sushi, deep-fried crab, yellowtail with foie gras and rice dumplings with lobster and green soup. "[Lisa Marie] wanted traditional Japanese food," says Keaney. Each course was written up in gold calligraphy on menus decorated with a gold, fan-shaped charm. Matching place cards featured red and gold ribbons decorated with cranes, which symbolize longevity.

THE CAKE The vanilla buttercream dessert features the character for congratulations and long life.

THE COUPLE They nixed a first dance, but weren't shy about showing affection. "They seemed very happy," says the groom's dad.
