During his prime, King Kong was one wild ape—he palmed Fay Wray and Jessica Lange. These days, in mechanized enshrinement, Kong rears and roars on the Universal Studios Tour. Biweekly, Mae Canaga and daughter Marilee, spend the night with him—cleaning oil from leaky pistons, polishing, mending acrylic fur. "He's a maintenance nightmare," says Mae. "But we brush his teeth and tongue, making him minty fresh." Kong won't offend any more leading ladies in the close-ups.
