I asked her to look moody," says the photographer, "because I felt that behind a shawl, she should be sort of mystical." The photographer was Henry Wynberg, used-car salesman, bon vivant and for two years the lover of the subject, Elizabeth Taylor. Wynberg bought an antique Dutch shawl for $50 and made this picture during an idyllic weekend in Helsinki when both the light and going were good. Since then, of course, Taylor has returned to Burton (although rumors had them splitting again last week). Wynberg sees "a lady here and there." But he has turned down a fortune to write about his affair with Elizabeth, talks on the phone with her occasionally and, friends think, still carries a torch. He will say only, "She's a very, very darling lady." But from the two rolls of film he shot that day, he has given up this picture—a kind of love letter to Liz, since at 43 she has rarely looked more beautiful.
